Lighting + Building is one of the world's leading trade fairs for lighting and building services technology. It is usually held every two years in Frankfurt, Germany.
In March 2024, the Lighting + Building exhibition once again brought together professionals from the global lighting and building technology sector. Industry representatives showcased cutting-edge design trends as well as adaptable solutions and innovative technologies. We, of course, paid more attention to exploring automation systems and innovations in lighting. That's what we're going to talk about.

Like all design trends, lighting design evolves over time, introducing new styles, reviving classic aesthetics and introducing cutting-edge lighting technology.

Discover inspiration with my list of the top 10 lighting trends that will light up 2024.
  • Tube lights: The trend of tube lights continues to evolve, with designers and manufacturers introducing new styles, technologies, and applications. It is great to see the transformation of the past into a new and modern style. For example, the image of ordinary fluorescent lamps has turned into a new trend in lighting. Tubular lamps are made of acrylic, aluminium profile or neon. Such lamps are now made in warmer shades of white, which gives them the look of "cosy chic".
  • Track lighting systems: This system made a comeback in 1990's design and we are seeing a revival and unstoppable transformation of track lighting. Each year the system takes on a more modern and elegant look. Innovative designs are emerging that fit any style in interior design. With its ability to be miniaturised, elegant, futuristic, create ambiance and be functional, it is no wonder that some well-known brands have focused on developing the track system. Today, this system continues to be popular and I think it will continue to be in demand in the future.
  • Vanishing lights: Bigger doesn't always mean better. On the contrary, if you look at the boldest and freshest ideas in architecture and design today, everything seems to be getting smaller and even almost disappearing. Miniaturisation is very popular right now, and it seems that this trend is only gaining momentum. Technology is advancing faster and faster, and products are getting smaller and smaller as a result. New technologies allow for more modest designs that are still efficient. A smaller fixture is less obtrusive, but more minimalistic and elegant.
  • Universal love in Casambi: Casambi is really popular in the field of lighting solutions due to its innovative wireless control system, flexibility, compatibility, energy efficiency, smart features, reliability and easy integration. It continues to be the preferred choice for individuals, businesses and organizations looking for modern and efficient lighting solutions. That is why new Casambi devices are introduced every year. Of course that makes us infinitely happier.
  • Minimalist Design: The trend towards minimalism continues. Designers use clean lines and shapes to create understated yet elegant luminaires. The focus is on creating versatile, practical and aesthetically pleasing solutions that complement different interior styles. Minimalism in lighting design focuses on simplicity, removing unnecessary embellishments to look stylish in contemporary interior design.
  • Abundance of materials: In recent years, the designer lighting sector has experienced significant growth, fueled by advancements in materials and manufacturing methods that have revolutionized lighting design. Designer lighting fixtures serve as a canvas for exploring various materials, textures, and finishes, pushing the limits of creativity and innovation. Whether aiming for a contemporary and minimalist look or a cozy and natural ambiance, the selection of materials plays a crucial role in shaping both the aesthetic appeal and functionality of a lighting product.

  • Two-in-one: Acoustic lamps combine lighting functionality and acoustic properties to offer a dual purpose solution for improving light and sound insulation in rooms. They come in a variety of designs, including pendant, floor, table or wall-mounted options to suit different aesthetic preferences and spatial requirements. Acoustic lights are particularly popular in spaces where noise reduction is required, such as offices, schools, libraries or open plan living spaces.
  • Colourful lamps: These lamps serve as design elements and bring unique colors and shapes to enhance the ambiance of any space. The range of available color shades varies widely and should be selected to complement the desired aesthetics. It is important to note that the use of multicolored lamps is not limited to simply illuminating rooms, as they are sure to become a dominant feature in a space and accentuate the interior.
  • Table lighting: Lighting in restaurants and cafes serves not only for visibility, but also to set the mood, enhance the taste and create an overall atmosphere. Table lamps come in a variety of styles, shapes and sizes to complement different interior styles. Sleek and modern models can be characterized by clean lines and minimalism, or they can be designed in a traditional or antique style. Much attention is paid to wireless technology. Many manufacturers offer luminaires with built-in rechargeable batteries and 2024 introduced multi-post charging for ease of use in large restaurants. Also loved the bottle lights. A special solution that makes these lights look chic and stylish.
  • Landscape lighting: LED lighting continues to dominate the landscape lighting market due to its energy efficiency, durability, and versatility. LED landscape lights are becoming increasingly sophisticated, romantic and stylish. You can choose from a variety of housing colors, glow colors and beam angles, allowing you to create custom lighting styles for outdoor spaces.
